you live what you learn

There's something about music that one can never manage to talk or write or state something about till one really hears, really listens and gives it a try. Music is about "giving a try" much much more than anything else.

You can never "read" about an album on wikipedia and talk to your friends about it. Or underline something that you say about an artist to someone who officially likes that artist. In my heart, I know personally- that's not the way you deal with sound! I have loved sound from ages. And its something really DNAic. Its like, for a particular sound you feel like saying, "it's fitted in my spine.." or it "speaks out of me.." or just "talks to me"!

Everyone has a song or a melody or the other, which speaks to one. No matter you realize it or not, or you talk about it or just feel it and keep a secret about it.

.. ... .... ..... .... ... .. .
LP_mylife_8657: Hi all! Right now 'm listenin to Easier to Run by LP, n I f***in realised something about my life...... ... ..

supreme_29: BTW mr. life LP ain't music! You wanna listen to music, go listen to jimmy, or bob, or megadeth..

LP_mylife_8657: they're awesome of course man.. but how can you compare artists of different ages?!

supreme_29: you mean bob marley's music is dead now..?!? u f***in LP lover?! and aerosmith? and ac/dc? or you call that old music you bitch.. then how about metallica?! is metallica dead too, you pathetic "nu age" noise fan?????

LP_mylife_8657: na.. i din't mean that man.. of course Low Man's Lyric is damm awesome! i just feel more with my kind of artists.. you can like what you want, right?!

supreme_29: what's low man's lyric, bitch?!

LP_mylife_8657: come on.. its a cool song by metallica, from one of their late studio albums.. i think it's from Reload, not sure tho.. :) you haven't heard it?! its awesome.. !

supreme_29: maybe i have.. dont remember by name, thats it ((Shit! this can't be a known song, its nowhere in wiki's metallica page.. Big-deep-shit!!))

LP_mylife_8657: so?! wt u listenin to?! wanna try LP?!

supreme_29: nah.. i read about them, when i read its rap mixed, i knew its bullshit.. even tried 1 of their so called songs i dont remember.. was rap n was shit!

LP_mylife_8657: u wanna try some of their awesome songs? to start with.. ??

supreme_29: i gotta go! gotta do a lot of paperwork! bye!

LP_mylife_8657: hi all! Right now 'm listenin to 'a place for my head' by LP, n I f***in love it! :)

.. ... .... ..... .... ... .. .

For books, its fine- you can read the review and get to know if your eyes really will to read it! You can turn the world upside down by figuring out a piece of text or even a series of documentary films, by reading about it- absolutely fine! You didn't have to experience the thing! A life saved!! But you can't treat the audible world like that.

Its like reading about "the taste of litchi" to start with and telling a kid about it. I hope well that my parenting goes different than that. Why not chill with your kid over a bunch of litchis and a video game rather?? :)

A song takes, on a vague average, 3 minutes. In three minutes you can taste what a taste says to you. In 3 minutes you can "find out yourself"! In just 3 minutes! In the same way you can gulp the grey shiny "litch" skin of a litchi, leaving the bullet and the red-textured-wallpaper behind..!

After all, dont we run here and there for our lovable things?! Then why that least bit of prejudice..?! For a "class" of "sound"?? Agreed- rap is rap and can be separated from rock or pop is pop and isn't metal. But come on, get a life- READING ABOUT A SONG OR ARTIST??!!! [WITHOUT LISTENING??!!?!?!?!]

AR Rehman says in the worldspace ad, "There's so much to hear". And its so much right, as actually there is so much to hear. Of course, one cannot listen to everything ever in a life, but the only way I want to end my sound life would be in the continuing try to listen to everything. At least once. Without reasons, or reviews, or a ten second pre-defined-to-be-ugly listening session. Without knowing classes, or "types" of instruments, or anything about "the kind of sound a city produces". Sound is simply undefinable. And unmeasurable, no matter how good of a science we have of decibels. All we can do is hear.

What if wiki doesn't feel about a song the way you could have felt? What if wiki knowledge is really "too based on facts and figures"?! What then?

Music, I guess, isn't only about hearing. But its about something else, just way above the anatomy of ears. Listening deals with feeling!

You surely live what you learn! And you just can't figure it out, no matter what you do or say or read or speak about, till you listen to it! Till you listen to the good old points of authority! ;)

And yes, then its all up to you- you can end up with a thought then finally, "okay! this sound doesn't talk to me!". Then you can press the next button.

[ Now its up to you if you click the points of authority link up there, or listen to it if you already haven't ]

;)

Ya... I agree with you... that it's an experience that can be felt or lived only by being in it..

but being equally fond of books, movies and all... I feel the prejudice you have talked about is very much there in these cases as well... even if one reads a review of a book or a movie.. it's only when one has seen or read and lived thru the experience that can one actually say for sure if it 'talks' or 'speaks' to us...

many a times a bad review or a bad word-of-mouth review by a friend/anyone makes us feel maybe it aint the right one... but there have been instances where I have still gone ahead and ended up loving them so much... some of those films/books are among my favourites...

when it comes to popular beliefs and acceptability.. things just lose its real meaning and its real purpose...

the ones that doesn't get talked about as much in a particular city, a state, country or among a certain community or stuff like tat.. suffer from being labeled as something not worth one's time and it's shitty to listen/read/watch them... failing to realise tat 'most' doesn't always transient into the 'best' either..

I'm listening to James Blunt's 'Cry' and other songs... and I know what a song can do...

anything that has the power to touch our soul and stirs some deep emotions inside of us... suffer being judged and prejudiced...

if only we could be 'open'...!!
